Some of the largest hot deserts in the world are the Sahara Desert which is known as the hottest desert located in the north of Africa. Others include the Arabian Desert, the
Kalahari Desert and the Great Victorian Desert which is located in central Australia. Deserts are full of sand dunes that have been moulded over many years with some dunes still being untouched.
Hot deserts are home to many plants which a lot of have adapted to help survive in this environment. One of many cacti that have done this is the giant saguaro cacti that grows in the Sanoran Desert. It can live up to 150 years of age and can grow up to 20 metres high and after a high downpour the plant can gather and hold eight tons of water. Another plant that grows in the desert is the saltbush that is found in Australia that uses salt and secretes it using its succulent leaves. This act allows this plant to live in a saline areas.
Some animals that make hot deserts home include gazelles and antelope who sometimes never drink water because they find enough water in the plants that they eat as herbivores. Other animals that live in these areas include desert rats, Jerboas and kangaroos that are nocturnal that help let them spend such time outside but other nocturnal animals that feed on these rodents. These animals include snakes, foxes, coyotes and jackals.
